Undergraduate: Dr. Merkel attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, undergraduate Pre-Med in 1963.
Medical: Dr. Merkel graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. in 1967.
Residency: Dr. Merkel served his General Surgery Residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, Colorado and his Plastic Surgery Residency at Brown University Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
Societies, Memberships, and Affiliations Dr. Merkel is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The Lipoplasty Society, and the American Association of Anti-Aging Medicine. He belongs to the Rocky Mountain Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Mesa County Medical Society.
